The Field Report

Firmware advisories, product evaluations, and field observations from the VisionPoint team.

In This Issue

This month, the VisionPoint team identified an HDMI content-ingest behavior change affecting Poly Teams Rooms devices running PolyOS 5. We walk through our field observations, the steps we took to protect managed environments, and what to expect next. We also spotlight the Lightware Taurus TPX HDBaseT extension bundle and share current platform version guidance.

Firmware Advisory: Poly PolyOS 5 HDMI Content Ingest

Observation
Following the PolyOS 5 update, the VisionPoint team observed HDMI content-ingest interruptions on Poly devices provisioned for Microsoft Teams Rooms. Affected devices stopped recognizing HDMI input from laptops and room PCs during live meetings. USB-C and wireless sharing paths continued to function normally.
Scope
The behavior was limited to Teams-variant Poly devices. This pointed to an interaction between the PolyOS 5 update and the Teams Rooms application layer rather than a hardware-level issue.
VisionPoint Response
For affected devices, the VisionPoint team performed a controlled rollback to PolyOS 4.5.2. The rollback was executed using the Custom Server URL provisioning method, which allowed targeted firmware delivery without affecting other fleet devices. HDMI functionality was restored on all rolled-back units. PolyOS 5 is a one-way update, meaning the previous firmware version is no longer available once the update is applied. VisionPoint has reached out to Poly for an official fix. The team has mitigated the issue by replacing Poly hardware as needed to maintain project schedules.
Fleet Protection
The VisionPoint team disabled automatic firmware updates across all managed Poly endpoints and issued a fleet-wide advisory to affected clients. No additional devices will receive the PolyOS 5 update until the HDMI ingest behavior is resolved. Clients with Gen2 devices have been provided interim workarounds using USB-C and wireless sharing.
Current Status
The VisionPoint team has documented the behavior and shared technical findings with Poly support. We are tracking the next firmware release cycle and will validate HDMI ingest on a test unit before re-enabling updates for any managed fleet. Clients will receive direct communication when the advisory is lifted.
VisionPoint Team Note
VisionPoint managed environments were protected within 48 hours of initial observation. If your organization manages Poly Teams Rooms devices independently, we recommend disabling auto-update and testing PolyOS 5 HDMI ingest in a lab environment before fleet deployment.

Lightware

Taurus TPX HDBaseT 4K Extension Bundle

Model: TPX-2×1-TX20 + 3×3-RX20 (Transmitter/Receiver Pair)

The Lightware Taurus TPX bundle extends 4K HDMI, USB, Ethernet, and RS-232 signals over a single Cat6 cable at distances up to 100 meters. The PoE-powered receiver simplifies installation by eliminating the need for a local power source at the display location.

This bundle is designed for boardrooms, training centers, and multi-room AV deployments where source devices are located away from the display. The VisionPoint team has validated the TPX bundle in an enterprise environment and has thus far found it to be a reliable, low-latency solution for long-distance signal distribution.

Key specifications: 4K at 60Hz (4:2:0), HDCP 2.2 compliant, USB 2.0 pass-through, bidirectional RS-232 and IR control, PoE (802.3af) powered receiver, zero-configuration operation out of the box.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the PolyOS 5 HDMI issue affecting all Poly devices?
No. The behavior change has only been observed on Poly devices provisioned for Microsoft Teams Rooms. Poly devices running the Zoom Rooms application on the same PolyOS 5 firmware are not affected. USB-C and wireless sharing continue to work normally on all variants.
Can Poly devices be rolled back to PolyOS 4 After They Are Updated to PolyOS 5?
No. PolyOS 5 is a one-way update. Once applied, the previous firmware version cannot be restored. The VisionPoint team is monitoring for a corrective update from Poly and will validate it before recommending deployment.
How does VisionPoint protect my environment from firmware issues?
VisionPoint managed environments use controlled update policies. The VisionPoint team validates firmware releases in a lab environment before authorizing fleet-wide deployment. When a behavior change is identified, the team can disable auto-update, issue rollbacks where possible, and provide direct client communication within 48 hours.
Where can I learn more about the Lightware Taurus TPX bundle?
Contact the VisionPoint team for a product evaluation, pricing, or to schedule a demo. The TPX bundle is available for immediate deployment and the VisionPoint team can handle design, installation, and ongoing support.
