In keeping with its practice of evidenced-based design, VisionPoint’s team performed a piece-by-piece evaluation of the existing system and surveyed key stakeholders on its fit for the Firm’s culture and work habits
When an integrated technology system begins to cause more problems than it’s worth, the common reaction is to toss the whole thing and start from scratch. A better solution is to look at each piece of the system individually and determine what, if anything, is worth reusing as part of a new solution.
Challenge
A northeast regional law firm had several rooms with existing integrated technology that worked sometimes, but usually left users frustrated and annoyed. Unfortunately, while the technology was still relatively new, the poor user experience made it a liability—negatively impacting client service and internal collaboration.
Design
In keeping with its practice of evidenced-based design, VisionPoint’s team performed a piece-by-piece evaluation of the existing system and surveyed key stakeholders on its fit for the Firm’s culture and work habits. The resulting Collaboration Technology Plan identified what was working, what was not working, and what was missing that would make the system more suitable for the Firm’s communication requirements. In addition, the report proposed a technology roadmap that satisfied the client’s objectives while accounting for budget sensitivities.

Impact
The Collaboration Technology Plan provided the technology management team with evidence to support their procurement suggestions and allowed them to plan and budget for technology upgrades. Having stabilized the current system based on VisionPoint’s recommendations, the Firm has begun implementing the roadmap and expects to achieve the increased quality and the expansion of collaboration capabilities to remote offices, on time.
